Dakar has hundreds of places to get your nails done, from air-conditioned studios in Les Almadies to neighborhood technicians working out of a room at home in Grand Yoff. Quality varies enormously, and price is not always a reliable signal. This guide covers where to look, what to budget in FCFA, and what to ask before you sit down.

Neighborhoods and what they offer

Almadies and Ngor hold the highest concentration of upscale salons, usually attached to a spa or a hair institute. Expect air conditioning, newer equipment, brand-name UV/LED lamps, and a broad selection of gel polish colors. This is where expats and visiting diaspora tend to go. Prices are the highest in the city, but hygiene standards are generally better maintained.

Point E and Mermoz offer the best value for many residents. These are residential areas serving Senegalese professionals, UCAD students, and settled families. Salons are smaller but often very consistent, with long-standing technicians who have a real neighborhood following.

Plateau runs on office rhythms — people come during lunch or after work. Quick services dominate: simple applications, fills, polish changes. Book ahead, because the noon-to-2pm and 5-to-7pm windows fill completely.

Ouakam and Yoff are more mixed. A few genuinely skilled studios sit alongside inexpensive neighborhood shops. This is also where you'll find the largest number of independent technicians who travel to clients' homes.

Prices in FCFA: what to expect

The ranges below reflect common practice. They rise in tourist-facing areas and around holidays.
