Living and working in Diamniadio: the new hub

Housing, offices, the TER, schools, health and shops: what to know before settling in the Diamniadio urban hub, advantages and limits.

Living and working in Diamniadio: the new hub

Diamniadio has changed a lot in a few years, moving from a highway junction to an urban hub with housing, offices, administrations and major venues. Settling there changes daily life compared with central Dakar: more space, a different commute, but also habits still taking shape.

Housing in the urban hub

Housing in Diamniadio is more recent than in Dakar's older neighborhoods, with residential developments built in the last few years. Rents vary a lot depending on the type of housing and how close it is to the center of the hub: compare several listings and visit in person rather than trusting a single figure found online. Available space per home is often more generous than in the city center.

Offices and administrations day to day

Several administrations and company headquarters have moved to Diamniadio, which changes things for those working there: a shorter commute for some, while other services are still being set up. For exact procedures with a given administration, it is best to check directly with that office rather than assuming its hours or requirements.

The TER to Dakar

The TER links Diamniadio to Dakar and to AIBD airport, with intermediate stops such as Bargny, Rufisque, Thiaroye, Pikine, Hann and Colobane up to Plateau. It is a real advantage for anyone working in central Dakar who wants to avoid the traffic on the Niayes road. Keep in mind that neighborhoods such as Keur Massar, Parcelles Assainies, Guédiawaye, Almadies and Ngor are not served by this line.

Schools, health and shops

Schools and health facilities are developing in Diamniadio, with private institutions gradually setting up there. Everyday shops (groceries, services, small trades) are also present, even if the choice sometimes remains more limited than in an established Dakar neighborhood. For a family settling in, it is better to visit and compare in person than to rely on reputation alone.

Dakar Arena and the exhibition center day to day

Living near Dakar Arena or the Diamniadio Exhibition Center means being close to major venues that host sporting and professional events, including several events of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, from 31 October to 13 November 2026. Outside event periods, they serve as useful landmarks for getting around the urban hub.

Advantages and limits to weigh

Diamniadio offers space, new infrastructure and a direct link to Dakar through the TER, but remains a younger hub, with neighborhood life still taking shape compared with Dakar's older areas. The choice mostly depends on your priorities: space and calm on one side, density and established habits on the other.
