Sports at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games: venues by hub

The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games run from 31 October to 13 November 2026, with athletes aged 15 to 18. Competitions are spread across three hubs: Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly. Dakar hub: Tour de l'Œuf, Iba Mar Diop and Corniche Ouest

The urban heart of the Games sits in the capital, across three official venues:

• Complexe Tour de l'Œuf: 3x3 basketball, Baseball5, breaking, swimming and skateboarding.
• Complexe Iba Mar Diop, in Médina: athletics, boxing, futsal and rugby sevens.
• Corniche Ouest: road cycling.

This hub is easiest to reach if you stay in Plateau, Médina, Point E, Mermoz, Fann or Sacré-Cœur. From Almadies, Ngor, Ouakam or Yoff, plan on a taxi or ride-hailing trip. For road cycling on the Corniche, arrive early and bring water: the sun is still strong in late October.

Urban sports: breaking, skateboarding, 3x3 basketball and Baseball5

These are the youngest, most energetic events of the Games, and they all take place at Complexe Tour de l'Œuf. Breaking, the hip-hop dance that became an Olympic discipline, draws crowds who react to every battle. 3x3 basketball offers short, fast games that suit families, and skateboarding is a trick-by-trick show. Baseball5, a street version of baseball played with the hand and a rubber ball, will be brand new to many local spectators.

Swimming is held at the same venue, so families can pair two sports in one day.

Diamniadio hub: Dakar Arena and the new city

Diamniadio, east of the city, hosts four venues:

• Dakar Arena: badminton and the futsal finals.
• Centre des Expositions de Diamniadio: artistic gymnastics, fencing, judo, table tennis, taekwondo and wushu.
• Centre équestre de Diamniadio: equestrian events.
• Stade Abdoulaye Wade: archery.

The TER regional express train is your best option here. It runs from Dakar station in Plateau to Diamniadio, stopping at Colobane, Hann, Pikine, Thiaroye, Rufisque and Bargny among others. Keur Massar, Parcelles Assainies and Guédiawaye are not on the line, so take a taxi to the nearest station first.

Saly hub: beach sports on the Petite-Côte

At Saly plage ouest, the ocean becomes the stadium: beach handball, beach volleyball, beach wrestling, coastal rowing, triathlon and sailing. Beach wrestling is a natural crowd-pleaser in a country where wrestling is part of everyday culture.

Saly is about 80 km from Dakar, roughly 1 h 15 to 2 h on the toll motorway depending on traffic. A night or two there makes the trip more relaxed. Bureaux de change are hard to find outside Dakar, so withdraw CFA francs from an ATM before you leave or on arrival.

Picking events based on where you stay

• Staying in Plateau, Médina, Point E or Mermoz: focus on the Dakar hub and take the TER from Dakar station to Diamniadio.
• Staying in Almadies, Ngor, Ouakam or Yoff: the Dakar hub is an easy ride, while Diamniadio means a longer drive.
• Staying in Rufisque, Bargny or Diamniadio: the Diamniadio venues are on your doorstep, and Saly is closer too.
• Staying in Saly or elsewhere on the Petite-Côte: build your trip around the beach sports.

Visa works in hotels, supermarkets and malls, but keep cash: Yango and Heetch rides are paid in cash or with Wave and Orange Money, not by card. A taxi ride within Dakar usually costs between 1,500 and 4,000 FCFA depending on distance; agree on the fare before getting in.
